The Overload

The spin of life is too great sometimes. One must remember to step back, take a deep breath, and remember that every choice is not life and death. But the sheer number of choices one must make, every day, can contribute to the overload.

Choice is touted as a great thing; too much choice is paralyzing. Freedom is good; freedom without restraint can lead to chaos.

So we have lots of choice and lots of freedom. Are we doing good things with all of this? Are we spinning in circles, amazed at the reflected image that the world provides for us, or are we reaching out & trying to make this place better for all?

I was thinking about the phrase "spending time". I even marvel - shudder that I think in such commercial terms. "Spending time"? I hate that idea, because it means there has been a determination, or agreement, that my body/mind in this interval is worth something other than what it truly is worth. Is it true that if you are not "spending time", you are "wasting" it? How I chose to "spend" that commodity is largely a reflection of my bent of character.

When I spend time making choices, I feel mostly that I am wasting time. Most of these choices really don't matter, not really.

There are only a few true moments in life that have intrinsic worth. If you can recognise them when they come, breath them in. Pause to take every bit of the moment in. Then breath out.
